Petronijevic: Karadzic not to appear in court tomorrow either

Image Former Republika Srpska President Radovan Karadžić will not appear
in the Hague tribunal courtroom tomorrow either, a member of his defence
team, Goran Petronijević, said. Karadžić wants to be enabled a fair
trial by being granted another 10 months for defence preparations, he
said. Karadžić will not agree to the appointment of an official defence
counsel, as that would be against his will and would represent a breach
of his rights, said Petronijević. He added that an eight-member team for
Karadžić’s defence had been processing documentation of 1.1 million
pages, 45,000 exhibits and more than 1,000 hours of audio and video
materials. The beginning of Karadžić’s trial has been postponed for
tomorrow, as he did not appear in the courtroom, having informed the
trial chamber that he was not ready for trial. A prosecution
representative proposed an ex officio defense counsel to be imposed on
Karadžić, who is putting up his own defence, but the presiding judge,
O-gon Kwon, assessed it was too early to decide on that.
