Montenegro: Arrest warrants received for ex-Thai PM Podgorica, 1 June (AKI) - Montenegro authorities have received a warrant from Thailand's Criminal Court for the arrest of ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to stand trial on charges of terrorism. According to Podgorica's daily Dan, the Thai court has presented evidence which could lead to the eventual extradition of Shinawatra.
Shinawatra has been granted citizenship of Montenegro and under the Constitution he may be protected from extradition. Montenegrin prime minister Milo Djukanovic also said that the country was prepared to organise a trial if Thailand presented enough evidence against Shinawatra. Thaksin Shinawatra is not allowed to make any political messages while in Montenegro, the country's foreign minister Milan Rocen said on Tuesday. "Shinawatra has already been informed that he cannot abuse our hospitality nor territory for political activities", Rocen said, adding that he gained citizenship before the warrant was issued by Thailand. Thaksin, a former prime minister was ousted in a 2006 military coup and now lives in exile. He was accused of repeatedly urging government opponents known as Red Shirts in their recent campaign for new elections in Thailand, according to government officials. Shinawatra came to Montenegro in March 2010 from Dubai, Montenegro police said. He has spent the past two months in his villa near the coast. http://www.adnkronos.com/AKI/English/Politics/?id=3.1.479131283
