Hi, just a quick reminder about tonight's City Council Meeting @ 7:00pm
with public hearings.
This item will probably be the most watched tonight and of concern to
you if you rent out part of your home or just want a second kitchen for
extended family or guests.
A public hearing to consider an ordinance amending Section 14.34.440 (Second
Kitchen in One-family Dwellings) and enacting Section 14.34.450 (Elderly
Persons -
Accessory Apartments) of the Provo City Code to authorize persons age 65
or older
to establish an accessory apartment in a One-family Dwelling located in
an A1, Ra,
R1 or RC Zone, Subject to Licensing.

More details? You'll have to call the council office @ 852-6060 to find
out the wording of the proposed amendments/additions.
I left them a message on Thursday and they haven't gotten back to me yet.
Anyway, let them know how you feel. It doesn't take reading the
specifics to see that this is age discrimination.
There's probably a heck of a lot of families with the parents under 65
that could use the income from an accessory apartment.
