Hi everyone, many of you have already voted today
but I just wanted to send a reminder in case you've forgotten or have
not voted yet! :)
If you don't know where to vote, then go to http://maps.provo.org and
at the top right type in your address and it will tell you where to
vote.
(alternatively you can also find out where to vote via typing in your
name and birthdate @ http://gva1.utah.gov/elections/polling.aspx )
The polls close at 8:00pm -- as long as you're in line by 7:59pm you'll be ok.
Don't have a clue who to vote for?
Well, start by checking out the excellent voter's guide put together
by our friends at the Student Provo City Alliance at
http://studentprovocityalliance.org/?page_id=23
There's both written answers to questions as well as short videos, 2
minutes or less! :)
(I'm not sure why some of the candidates did not participate -- they
all had two weeks -- some of them might have procrastinated and missed
the deadline to answer by or something..)
Anyway, check it out!
*** Here are my recommendations: ***
City Council, City-wide (ALL OF US VOTE on this):
Lindsay Wiblin or Laura Cabanilla
I'm still undecided as to who I'm voting for this evening. I think
they are the two best out of the 5 candidates.
City Council, District 2:
dang, this is tough. I've narrowed it down to either Rick Healey or
Tim Spencer. I like Spencer's answers on zoning better though I'd
definitely be happy with Healey's answers to them also! :) Healey has
more experience in the city, a lot more -- but I like what I heard
from the one time I've talked with Spencer. May the force be with you
in deciding! :)
City Council, District 5:
Gosh, this was really hard -- so many good candidates. But I've
decided to endorse Robert Oscanyan. I think he will do the best job
in all areas.
Mayor:
Wow, tough choice again, but I've narrowed it down to my favorite 2:
Neil Mitchell and Ammon Cunningham. I'm leaning towards Neil Mitchell.
Any of the city council seats has more power in making laws than the
mayor so that's why the mayor election is at the bottom of my list of
decisions.
Some of the candidates did not make the list because they go against
the underlying principle of fairness --- of everyone being equal
before the law -- in regards to zoning laws.
No matter how complicated zoning becomes, there is always the
underlying foundational principle of fairness for all -- double
standards are unjust -- fairness for all should never be violated --
there should be discriminating based on familial/marital status or
property ownership status.
Some of them didn't make my list for other reasons. Treating everyone
fairly wasn't my only consideration but other things like iProvo,
taxes and spending, etc.
Allright, i hope this helps.
Call or text me if you have any questions.
I won't be at email again till after 8pm.
