BrOffice 2.2.0 is Available
---------------------------
The Brazilian version of OpenOffice 2.2.0 is now available for
download.
The announcement of BrOffice.org 2.2.0, the Brazilian version of the
OpenOffice.org suite, is also the opportunity for the Brazilian
project
to rally the international OpenOffice.org project. BrOffice.2.2.0
brings
all the evolution of OpenOffice.org (see the changelog), with the
locale
tools for the Brazilian user.
The major achievement of this version is the code and community merge
with the international project. The fork was due to several issues,
from
differences in the interface and help translations to problems related
to packaging and features unique to Brazil. This lead us to develop a
paralell project, but nevertheless, BrOffice.org was always managed
as a
Brazilian extension of OpenOffice.org product and community.
Also, with an important issue related to a local Brazilian trademark,
OpenOffice.org.br had to change its name to BrOffice.org, much like
other countries and communities, except that here there was no
settlement acceptable for us so far. The trademark issue was
brought to
the OpenOffice.org Community Council, which aknowledged the unique
situation presented and then accepted that BrOffice.org is by all
means,
OpenOffice.org in Brazil. This Council recognition helped us to
consolidate our voluntary efforts in Brazil and brought
satisfaction to
the end-users community.
BrOffice.org from now on, will follow all standard code compilations
within the official schedule, and will bring many benefits to the
end-user, such as a product adapted to our national identity and
culture, with all the leading edge technologies developed in the
international project.
We whish to ackowledge all the efforts of the internation community of
OpenOffice.org as well as the tremendous effort done by the Brazilian
volunteers to deliver to the local community a product each one is
proud of.
