1. Perfect Storm:

Super typhoon Faxai is threatening North Pacific islands with winds of
250 kilometres per hour and waves up to 33 feet high, weather
officials said.

Guam remained on Typhoon Condition Three with local government officials
cautioning residents to be prepared for the storm in case it changes
direction.

Saipan in the neighbouring Northern Mariana Islands was also on
alert. Faxai was expected to make its closest approach to Guam by 5
a.m. Monday, passing 260 miles northeast of the island, said
Genevieve Miller, National Weather Service meteorologist told the
Pacific Daily News.

As the typhoon approached the Mariana Islands on the weekend before
Christmas, holiday shopping became intertwined with typhoon
preparations, the Pacific Daily News reported. (PINA Nius On Line)
