1. Lucky Miss:

Supertyphoon Faxai slipped past Saipan and headed far out to sea,
leaving the Mariana Islands with nothing to worry about but Christmas,
reports tthe Pacific Daily News.

The storm, at one stage packing winds of 260 kilometres per hour, was
downgraded from supertyphoon to typhoon.

"It was a glancing blow," National Weather Service meteorologist Dan
Mundell told the Pacific Daily News in Guam. "There really wasn't any
impact on the populated islands."

Faxai came barrelling out of the Federated States of Micronesia, headed
straight for the Marianas. It put all the islands on alert.

But in the end, the storm passed by far to the east of the islands, the
Pacific Daily News said.(PINA Nius On Line).
