The cable U need is in fact the standard serial cable that all Macs use to connect printers and such... Over the years, when I have experienced problems, I usually find it be either the port settings on the NCK/NCU does not match where the cable is actually plugged in, or Appletalk is getting in the way, or the Newton needs to be reset, OR EVEN (recently) the cable itself is just bad!
