Thanks to all that replied. This issue had me stumped and Sun Support at various levels too.
In the end it was an inconsistant upgrade from 9 to 10 that caused all the heartache and left residual solaris 9 tools and librarys. So I have to scrub and rebuild the box from scratch. Thanks again to all that replied. This message posted from opensolaris.org
