Read the pkcs11_softtoken.so man page. In there it tells you how to locate the token store elsewhere by setting the $SOFTTOKEN_DIR environment variable.
Renaming pkcs11_softtoken will break other things. We have made some changes to pkcs11_softtoken in OpenSolaris (already integrated into ONNV) that makes it much less aggressive about searching for and attempting to lock the files that make up the token.
