As far as I can see, it's still used in auto/lib/md5/make and
auto/lib/sha1/make.  And it's actually needed when using md5
library at least from openssl-0.9.7/crypto/md5.


Right, sorry.

I did not noticed that a separate make was called when building md5 and sha1.
