I have a requirement to record an audit message for some business
operations affecting one of my entities (i.e. not just who/when/what,
but "why" something happened). While there could be the occasion
where I need to fetch/filter the past audit messages for an entity,
the much more common case is adding audit messages.

The straight forward solution is to just do a one-to-many from Entity
to EntityAuditMessage and simply to a List.Add(new
EntityAuditMessage(...)) at those points in the entity's logic where
something noteworthy happens.

What I'm not clear on is whether doing an Add to a lazily-loaded List
will incur the list being loaded, thereby incurring an increasing
performance hit over time.

Can someone briefly confirm or deny how an Add to a lazy-loaded list
will behave in NH?
