We're about to embark upon some calendaring functionality in our NHibernate-based system. The iCal format is certainly good for interchange, but what about storage? It doesn't seem right to map the events and reccurenc patterns to columns as CLOBs. An event starting on Jan 1, 2011 with recurrence pattern of every Saturday wouldn't be easily matched when querying for things occurring on January 8, 2011. At the same time, storing each occurrence for next 50 years seems like a lot of wasted effort as well.
