The problem is with the wrapresultsets configuration setting: if I set it to true on NH 3.3.1, it won't load the XML into the XDocument, if it is not set, everything works fine! On trunk, this problem does not happen, with any value of wrapresultsets.
cfg.SetProperty(NHibernate.Cfg.Environment.WrapResultSets, Boolean.TrueString) I will create a test case and submit it ASAP.
