Hi All, My CB700SC failed a WOF (Warantee of Fitness) test here in New Zealand this morning. I'm trying to get it legal here again. It's been parked in a garage since I left last March. The inspection mechanic showed me that when he pulls the front brake lever, the stop light does not come on in the back. The foot brake for the rear wheel, however, works fine.
He sprayed the area of the switch on the handlebars with some kind of electrical cleaner but it had no effect. I looked at the setup a few minutes ago now that I'm home and I can see that when you pull in the brake lever, part of the brake lever pushes in what looks like a little rubber button. I suspect the brake switch is in there? So, my questions are: - Is it hard to get into the brake switch to see if it is dirty or broken ... or is it just better to replace it because it's not something that can be repaired? - If it's to be replaced, is it difficult? - Could my problem be somewhere else? I mean, it could be a broken wire, I guess. - Is there some testing I can do before I start pulling things apart? Any help would be much appreciated.
