Hi everyone,

I'm new in to the group, to Nighthawks and to motorcycles of any kind!
After a long time discussing with my wife if she would let me buy mi
first bike, I got a sweet deal: if I quick smoking, she would give her
permission plus $3000. I'm proud to say that after two months smoke
free I can claim my prize. I just can't wait to get into a bike, but
not any bike, it have to be a Nighthawk 750. I saw it for first time
in 1995 in a close-up and I felt for it.

So I've been looking desperately for the best deal I can find, withing
the amount of money I just mention... I found a good deal, and now my
wife and I are wondering if it is too good to me true.

WHAT I FOUND:
I found a black, 1996 Nighthawk 750, with only 1600 miles on it... the
final price is not set yet, but it is under $3000 (probably $2800). I
saw it today. I looks beautiful and spotless. The body, paint,
chromes, lights, etc all look fine as far as I can see. I turned on
several times, always start right away, almost not choke.

MY DOUBT:
because I've never ride a bike, I don't know how. Therefore I don't
have license to drive it. Consequently, I wasn't able to actually RIDE
the bike. I couldn't see anything obviously wrong with it, but it is
really weird to me that a 13 years old bike only have 1600 miles on
it. The seller is a mechanic. He claim he got the bike from a friend
not long ago (the first owner), but he have other bikes and he never
ride it too much. He just said he needs the money. The problem that I
have is that he is asking me to decide between tomorrow Friday or
Saturday, otherwise he would sell it to someone else (yes, probably
not true, but...)

MY QUESTIONS:
 1) Are there any (common) ways to trick the millage on these bikes?
just replacing the whole gauge?
 2) Is there any specific points I should check besides "how good she
looks"? specially something for a person like me that cannot compare
it with other bikes.
 3) Under your experience, it is common to find such a good deal
(specially, such low millage)? Am I too paranoiac? Or this is just a
fair deal?
 4) Can I check the history of the bike with his VIN number in Carfax?
or something else?

MOST IMPORTANT:
5) Can anyone help me in the next 24-48 hours? I am very sorry in
asking so many questions, but it is been hard for me to find
Nighthawks at all where I live, and I would hate to let a potentially
good deal just pass by. My lack of experience give me a hard time to
decide.

I hope it is not too late to ask. Unfortunately I did knew about this
wonderful group until 10 min ago. Thanks in advance for your help.
Cheers,

Javier.
