Even the Japanese had a go with Brit design... anybody remember the Kawasaki W1
and W2 ? clones of Enfields or Nortons. And the Yamaha Triumph clone 650
vertical twin ?  Thank God that didn't last too long. They made them better,
but still..
I had a friend that had an XK120 coupe and and after all the usual problems
with the drive-line, he installed a Chevy 350 with a Hydromatic and ran it
through a Ford Econoline rear end. Worked good (stock Chevy motor) and one day
he stopped by and we went to see a guy I know that is a real Jaguar freak. He
runs a foreign car repair shop on the south side. He looks out the window and
sees the car.. Nice 120 he says.. then he notices the solid wheels on the
back...What's with that ?  Dave showed him the car... When we left he was
clutching his chest and muttering "how could you..."
Question; since it rains so much in England, why do their cars leak so much ?

I had a '77 MGB once, that thing cured me of all things British. I even have a
hard time enjoying Monty Python and Reeboks now. It never made it to an oil
change, the engine would blow up/melt down/throw a rod before 3000 miles. We
rebuilt it twice then sold it "As-Is".

Hee, hee...you left out electrics by Lucas, the Prince of Darkness.
Had a 4-banger myself, back in the day.  Left hand drive, right-handed
3-speed shift pattern with a toggle on the dash for 4th.  My roomate

had an MG and we had a snatch-rope for towing one or the other to our
neighborhood mechanic.  He was a
jolly little Asian guy who would just
grin and shake his head during our weekly visits, and say "Why don't
you guys just buy a Chevy?"

The Brits had an unique mindset toward mechanical design.  If you were

a "motorist" or a "cyclist," it was expected you were also a hobbyist,
equipped with spanners and spares and prepared to do your own roadside
tinkering.  "Low maintenance" was just not in their lexicon.
