I have an 84 650 and just replaced the front tire on mine. (I have to
replace the rear next year, that really scares me). Taking the front
tire off isn't that hard, if you go slow and pay attention.. First
take off the fender, it's four allen bolts (6mm) on the top and two on
each side. Pay attention to the placement of the cable guides. You
may need to pry out the plastic plugs the are stuck in the holes of
the allen screw on the top ones.. Carefully if you want to reuse them
because those break EASY. Next is the brake calipers, (They come off
as one unit, without having to remove the brake line). Each has two
more allen bolts holding them on. One at the top and one towards the
bottom. Then slide them off the rotors. Now's a good time to inspect
the brake pads and caliper seals. Excellent time to replace them if
they need it. (I had to do mine) Pay close attention, (take a
digital pic) of the speedo unit below the caliper on the left side.
You'll see where the cable attaches. Once the calipers are off, you
should be able to remove the axel by loosening it from the right hand
side. It should slide out. Pay attention to the spacers ect on both
sides of the wheel so you can get them back in when you put it all
back together. (Again, more pictures). You may have to loosen for
forks at the clamp at the top by the steering head so you can roll
them apart to slide the wheel out. Make sure the bike is spported
REAL WELL. I put mine on the center stand, pushed down on the rear
to bring the front end off the ground, then took pieces of wood and
stacked them underneath the exhaust pipes until it's supported.

Hope this helps. As I said, go slow, pay attention, take pictures,
stay organized. I'm sure if you run into problems, the experts (which
I'm not) here will be happy to help you....
