Cool! It's really one of a kind. I didn't want just a regular
Sportster...BOORRINNGG.

I'm buying a bike from the Arlen Ness shop in Las Vegas. I'll be flying into
Vegas, party a little with a friend, and then riding the beast home. Yes, Bad
word, it's a Harley. plus is that it's an 01 Sportster XL1200C all customed
out, one woman owned bike. I've been shopping around quite a bit and the other
1100 plus cc bikes are either just as much or more dollar wise. This one is
$4995.00 including new brakes, tires, and complete service. Hotrod. I'll have
my own travel story for you soon Stanley. I still can't believe that you rode
all that way on that little bike.

Well, from Phoenix, I drove through the Grand Canyon, went up through Bryce
Canyon (second visit), then on through Salt Lake and to Ogden my first day. I
encountered heavy rain around Flagstaff and missed my turn and had to backtrack
about 80 or so miles, and stopped for the night. The next morning was cool,
and it was a sight seeing smoke coming from the chimneys of houses as I made my
way into Utah. I made it to Salt Lake by around noon, and was fascinated with
the very very wide roads, even through the middle of town: if I remember
correctly, there were at least two or three lanes each way and head-in parking.

It took a while to walk across the road...
I stopped in Ogden by mid-afternoon to visit a friend; left the next day (and
experienced the fun of dodging potatoes on the road in Idaho:), up into the
beautiful mountains through Montana, where I spent the night. Was quite
difficult holding onto things when I stopped, because I rode too far without
adding layers to keep warm.
It was hot in Phoenix, cold in the mountains of Montana, although beautiful...
After Arizona Utah, Idaho, and Montana, Washington - with its pastoral, rolling
hills and grass on the east end - was boring...

OMG Stanley! And I was just wondering if I could make it from Mesa, Arizona to
Idaho if I bought a bike there. (And it's NOT a Gnat either)

In response to your query, is that from San Francisco to Los Angeles? That
isn't that long a trip; try from Phoenix to Seattle, and that via Utah, Idaho,
and Montana, on a Honda 160 Super Gnat...

considering a big ride from sf to la via the 101. i normally ride a
nighthawk 750 but the ride would be on a suzuki sv650. any tips,
thoughts, concerns i should have before prepping for a big ride? i was
planning on stopping every 100 or so miles to rest (maybe even like
80) and stretch. have good gear to keep me warm if it gets cold.
