Hi Frank, welcome to us

I've had a couple of 700S that had been sitting before I bought them and the valve cover gaskets leaked. You might try tightening the allen bolts holding the cover on but be careful, don't over tighten. I did replace the gaskets on two of mine and yes it was very simple to do. The gaskets cost $40 each, can't remember where I bought them - probably Bibebandit. About the oil, check out the threads on the subject in the archives, there's plenty of info , advice and opinions there. I found it very helpful. Shaft oil is also very simple to change and a good idea to do so - along with the brake and clutch fluids. We all want to see pics of your mint 700S

Hello All!

Im new to this group, so I hope to get (and give) some useful info.
My question goes out to all the mechanics out there. I just bought a
MINT 700S that looks like it just rolled out of museum. I'm not
kidding. The bike has had two, maybe three owners. It's been sitting
in a garage its whole life and has been sitting in a garage for the
past 2-3 years. I plan on changing the oil, filter and air filter
this week. I noticed after I ran it 30 miles or so; after a couple of
heat/cool cycles, that the valve cover gaskets are leaking a bit. The
front L/R sides drip onto the fins a bit. Is this because it has been
sitting? Will it go away after a few days? If not I've been told its
easy to replace for 30 bucks or so off bike bandit.

My questions are these:

1) Where can I get a repair manual for this? Clymer doesn't make one!
I've looked around.; but I only see an electronic version for the
750S, non-U.S.

2) The valve cover gasket described above.

3) Can I run mobil 1 synthetic, or other synthetic brands?
Suggestions?

4) Should I also change the shaft oil as well?

Thanks in advance for the help!
