I just had a Kawasaki KZ1000 do that. gas would pour out through the
hole in the muffler because it was being sucked into #3 cylinder due
to a torn diaphragm in the pet cock (allowing gas to be sucked into
#3 intake). Graham

drain past
the rings into the crank case. If you started the bike in this

This is exactly what happened to my bike, including the hydrolock,
which thankfully seems to have done no damage. Other symptoms were
fuel leaks when hot, flooding on start, and even fuel starvation at
high speeds. And it ALL was caused by a 1/16 inch diameter hole in
the center of the petcock diaphragm. We replaced the petcock with
one off Ebay and not only did all the trouble vanish, but fuel
economy went from 40 MPG to 50 MPG.
Check the petcock first.
