So it looks like I'll be doing a 6+ month project in Merced, California for work starting early next month. I just found out recently, so don't have a whole lot of time to plan. Because I'd like to have more than a 1-month riding season, I'd like to get the bike shipped from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Merced, CA.
I've checked out a few places online, and the cheapest seems to be in the $400 range. Since I'm a cheapo, I'd like to pay about half of that. Has anyone had any experience shipping bikes? If I can't find a good deal, I'll trailer it out there behind my car. I would prefer to ship it and not to have to worry about 2200 miles pulling a trailer. I will be coming back to WI in the winter (Dec/Jan), and will have to arrange shipping back as well. Suggestions? (like hire one of you guys to find me a bike in CA that'll cost less than shipping my own...)
