Your clutch is cable right? unhook thhe cable at the case and see if the handle 
and cable move free. if they do then you need to look further into the engine 
case

greetings.i have a 91 nighthawk 250. is there a way to check with the
clutch cable removed whether the return spring is working correctly
without removing the case? i re-attached clutch linkage and when i
pull clutch handle it does not spring back.i know it is possible i did
not reassemble link right but figured i would ask first.
