Happy Labor Day. I stated having some trouble with what felt like a gear slipping when starting out in first. As I'm finishing releasing the clutch I can fell and hear a small amount of slipping. Everything else is fine. I did some reading and checking and my chain was real loose. Measuring at the mid point in the swing arm, I had just over 2" of slack in the chain. (Measured at the top of chain, first pulled down and then pushed up. Did I do that right?)
I tightened it up so now it's just over 1" and while the slipping seems to be gone, I now am having trouble shifting into 1st. I don't get the clunk and positive feel I used to get and when I start out, you hear it grind and slip. If I let the clutch out a bit for a second, it will shift fully into first. Did I over tighten the chain? The sticker says 5/8 - 1" with 1 5/8" max. I'm tempted to loosen it up some. Maybe fixing one issue exposed another? Any ideas what's going on?
