The best way is to remove the seat cover and cut down the foam, then reattach
the vinyl. The other way would be to lower the forks in the triple tree and put
shorter shocks on it. But you have to be careful to lower the front and rear
the same amount or the bikes handling will be adversely affected. Either way
you can't lower more than 1 inch that way.

Subject: [Nighthawk Lovers] Seat too high

HI, Just bought a 1986 Honda Nighthawk 450. I am 67 years old and
want to get back into riding. I have not rode for about 30 years. I am
five foot seven inches tall and have short legs. The seat on the Night
Hawk is a little to high for my feet to touch flat footed. Is there a
way to lower the seat? Even an inch or two would help a bunch.
I read in a repair manual that the bike should be idling when I
adjust the timing chain. Is that the proper way to do it.? thank
you very much in advance. Fred
