Also the manual for the bike will tell you the bolt sizes. I have the Honda service manual for my ST and it has lots of the details. Kinda the minimum for working on a bike. Happy wrenching.

If it's an '85 650 then yes, removing the headlight makes it much easier, and it's only 2 bolts holding it on. If it's a 700 then no, you don't need to remove the headlight.
