When I was in high school, there was a localish race rider who suffered a
chain snap on a hard launch. The chain whipped up and took his leg at the
knee, shattering the bone too badly to attempt reattaching it.

He left motorcycles, got into rally. Drove a car with a hand clutch mounted
to his shift lever. Quite inspirational, honestly. I have lots of respect
for people who suffer massive setbacks such as those but persevere onward.
