Kyle, glad to hear you're okay! I have also joined the "it finally happened" club recently (the Wednesday before thanksgiving) with my '82 450.
I was turning a corner (splitting off from my buddies to go home), going a reasonable speed. In the turn, my back tire hit some gravel (which I must not have noticed due to waving bye to the other guys). I was turning left, the tire slipped out from under me, and the bike was leaning to the right. I put my left foot down to brace and to hopefully set it don easy. Well, that's about the time the rear tire gripped the road and proceeded to flip to the right and launch me into a cartwheel. Damage to bike: 3 of 4 turn signals broke off, bent handlebars, broken headlight and bent bracket, bent gauge bracket, broke windshield. No body or engine damage. Rode it home in fact. Damage to me: little road rash on my leg, fracture in left elbow, separation fracture in left shoulder, and broke bone in right thumb (which is still currently pinned and with a cast on it). I get the pins out on Friday. I lost some range in motion with left elbow and we will see about the right thumb on Friday. I was wearing helmet, jacket, jeans, and boots.
