Christy, my wife started on a suzuki 500, which she sold to take possession of my 96 NH 750. She liked it a lot more, not really because of the bigger engine, but because of the better handeling and the feeling of a bigger bike. Problem is that the 750 is a bit too talk for her. She is probably your height. She can handle it but her feet are not flat on the ground. The bike has a Corbin seat, which is a bit lower but also wider than stock. We then got a NH 650, which is a very similar bike in terms of power, but it just fits like a glove for her. A bit smaller, lighter (but just not too much), and very nice to ride. I was actually quite impressed with this NH. Shaft drive, 6 speed, anti-dive, dual disk brakes, fuel and gear indicator. Very nice ride.
