Before I sent carbs out to get rebuilt, I'd invest in new boots as they
will make the bike run poorly even with perfect carbs. seriously though if
you have access to an air compressor, they are simple to disassemble as
long as you don't try to take the rack apart, which isn't usually
necessary. just remove the slides, choke plungers, jet needles, floats, and
float needles. Put on some protective eye wear and alternate squirting carb
cleaner and compressed air into the various holes paying special attention
to the pilot jet needle hole. When you squirt cleaner into that spot it
should come out a group of small holes inside the venturi by the butterfly,
if it doesn't spray out evenly of all holes then keep at it until it does.
Just be careful when you put the pilot jet needle back in it can very
easily become lodged in the carb body if you screw it in too far, also the
threads are super fine and can cross thread easily.
