Javier, removing the motor seems like too much work and struggle, untill you've
done it. I've taken out the motor in my 91 750 and it wasn't as bad as I
thought. It's just a lot of wrenching. I did it by myself too. Took it out one
day, worked on it and put it back together the next day. I did take a lot of
pictures in the process to make sure that I put it back correctly. If you have
a friend to help, it's even better. I must say I was relieved when I got it
started after reassembly. Of course I speak for myself and we all know
ourselves and our limitations. Believe you me, there are things beyond my
aptitude and I leave those to people who know what they are doing. Is it worth
all the work and doing it right? You know the answer. Take it to a shop, or
invite a few friends and get it done in one day. These bikes are worth it!

I've watched videos of replacement on a GS and they left the engine in. It was
burried below the stator rotor though.Sent via BlackBerry by AT&TFrom: Javier

So apparently the starter clutch went bad on the 85 NH 700s. The starter seem
to be spinning freely. I just looked at the manual and it calls for engine
removal as step 1. Ouch. And then you need to to basically disassemble the
whole thing to get there. Has anyone here ever done this job? are there are
short cuts? Any advice is appreciated.

Javier.
