I am wondering how the part labelled -clutch outer housing separates from - clutch hub, just by pushing the -Lifter plate towards engine? Somehow they have to separate under the pressure of part two--bearing moving towards engine.
I took the numbers out, as they come from the Klymers manual. Okay, here is how it sits now. I can use the clutch now, but it slips a little. The good news I soaked the friction plates all nite, and put them in again, and now I could just back the bike up, while in gear, albeit difficult. I started it an put it in first, and it took off, slowly this time. Shifted up, and in third gear got it to slip a little while clutch lever pulled in tight to the handlebar. But not all good. I could not quite stop at stop sign yet, it kept creeping a little, and when I parked it in garage it killed coming in slow in first gear. So what did I do different. 1. Installed it by the book and tightened clutch plate down to cage, no gap. Could not reach it with my current linkage, so no go, 2. Took it apart again and set it at0.250" below surface, as shown in the picture, but guessing at the depth, not completely tightened down. 3. Clutch appeared to work, at handle, and linkage attached normally. 4. To try to get it closer to fully locked on, I put it further down to 0.280" and got linkage to work again, at end of linkage rod bolt though. 5. So I have both issues now, slipping clutch, and also slipping when I need it to, ie when clutch is pulled in. It seems to grab good at times. Robert PS I may put in new oil as I need a new oil cooler gasket and others on bottom, that are leaking. I hope newer oil is an improvement. PPS What do you suggest I do next? I am a bit stuck, and going to Canada over the fourth weekend. Happy Independence Day!
