The talk about carb cleaners reminded me of my old Goldwing. When I got the
GL1200 it had all the symptoms of dirty carbs. Getting the carbs of that
bike is supposed to be quite difficult, so I found this article:

It talks about a "Yamaha carb cleaner". I found the product, followed the
instructions in the article, and it worked just as advertised. Next day the
GL was running like a completely different bike. However, I am not sure if
this is the same product Glen is talking about. In any case, it worked
amazingly well for me.
