Hi Brian,
It is a puzzle that you’re getting spark on cyl #4 but not #1. They both fire
at the same time with one cylinder at top of compression and the other at the
top of the exhaust stroke. So if you have spark on 4 then why not 1? Makes me
suspect a plug wire.

There is a handy $10 tool on Amazon that will give you an idea if there is
sufficient energy in the spark. Search for “Monkeyjack adjustable spark plug
tester.” Very useful tool.

Plug it into the end of the wire, ground it and then adjust the gap to see how
wide it can be and still make an arc. If the ignition coil cannot produce
sufficient voltage it will not generate a spark. More likely the wire to #1 has
failed so try swapping wires around. If the spark is still weak check very
carefully the bottom of the coil body where it was injection molded. I have
seen this point of the plastic body crack presumably because it is thinner and
with heat and age it fails allowing moisture in. The coil voltage then finds a
lower impedance path to ground than going across the plug gap and arcs out the
side of the coil. It will leave a carbon trace on the coil body. If that is the
case dry it out, dab on some nail polish and try again.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Colin
