You can buy fuel filters for motorcycles, even L shaped which works well on
the 700 S.

How about using compressed air to blow everything out. One thing you can do
to check the diaphrams after the carbs are reassembled is use light air
pressure to lift them and see how they react. Blow air lightly across this

creates some hesitation.

Cool, I’ll give that a try next time the carb is out. Thanks for the tip,
Bob! Right now I’m hoping I can leave them installed the the problem goes
away magically (yeah, dream on!).

Kyle, do you use no inline fuel filter then, or did you find a way to
install a larger one? I had bought this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0014C81R2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
but
it was just a little too large for the 700S. It actually might fit with a
more flexible fuel line. I might give it another try. Having a 15 micron
filter would be nice.
