Not really surprising...you're not looking at a 42x enlargement of the neg,
you're looking at a 10x enlarrgement of the print, which is very different.
If you put a 10x loupe on any print, it'll look decidedly fuzzy, due to the
nature of the medium (paper).
Slides would be the way to go for this sort of thing.
