Hi,

Please try the following test with your F5, any AF-D Nikkor lens and 3D color
matrix metering:

1. mount your F5 on a tripod.
2. aim at any scene that can give you step 4 and 5 result.
3. make sure your F5 is in Single Servo AF mode.
4. select center focus area and remember the exposure reading.
5. select other focus area and find a scene that the exposure reading is
different from reading of step 4, remember the exposure reading.
6. with the same lighting condition and composition, switch the focus mode to
Manual Focus mode.
7. select center focus area and the same focus area in step 5, you will find the
exposure readings are different from using AF mode.

Actually, after several tests, I found that under the same lighting condition
and composition, if the exposure readings are different with different focus
areas (even the objects are not in focus, i.e. you don't have to press the
shutter release button to get different readings), you will get the same
exposure reading with different focus areas when you are in manual focus mode.

In conclusion, it seems to me that the 3D color matrix metering only work with
AF mode and not with manual focus mode. Is my conclusion right? Or is there
something wrong with my F5?

Thanks in advance,

FS
