Being a cynical Brit, I would say the reason it doesn't work is to
force us to buy AF-D lenses. The old FA could do shutter priority with
AI-S lenses, but AF cameras cannot?!! It's all about flogging product-
the colour meter has been championed by Nikon in their ads and if you
want to use it, you better change your lenses too.

Incidentally, Nikon ran a nice ad campaign in U.K last year, showing
Nikons being used in films at the cinema.Things like Dennis Hopper
with a couple of F's in Apocalypse now etc. Just thought I'd mention
it as it came up recently.
