Hello Dan,
I just bought two Nikon lens that had the 5 year warranty. I don't think
that it is a "limited time only" thing. I think its here to stay! Someone
else will probably now for sure.

I know that Nikon is currently offering a 5 year lens warranty (1 year
standard + 4 years extended). I imagine that this is Nikon USA
exclusively. How long is this offer going on? I am slowly building my
Nikon system but if this extended warranty offer expires soon I may just
have to speed up the process.
