Pressing the shutter release on the F5 doesn't *always* have to focus the
camera; you have the option to make the AF-ON button the only focussing
button, leaving the shutter release to just lock the exposure. You'll find
this in the 'custom functions' under a little flap on the back of the
camera; you can set it to focus *and* lock exposure when you lightly press
the shutter release, or to merely lock the exposure, leaving the focus to
the AF-ON button on the back. Don't wear gloves if you try this!
