Someone asked me to elaborate on my statement:

>> By the way, ignore the nonsense in Nikon manuals about focus tracking in S
>> mode. Use C mode for action.

The manuals for the N90s and F5 (at least) suggest that in the "S" AF mode
the camera will continuously track a subject if it is moving. While some
have reported situations where this actually occurs, in most cases the
focus will lock immediately when you press halfway.

Despite being in focus-priority (according to the manual), the shutter will
then fire if you press the rest of the way, at which time the subject is no
longer in focus.

The AF systems on these cameras are fantastic for action, but only in C
mode. The manual writers, as we all know, need more training.
