It kind of depends on what you want to do with the pictures. When I was taking
pictures for the school paper I used TriX developed in Acufine for ASA 1,200
in a Mamiya-Sekor 1000TL with a 50mm f/1.8 lens. The local legend photographer
(more than local, award winning) used a twin lens Rollei and Royal-X at ASA
1,000. The lighting was incandescent back then at Hinkle Fieldhouse, but I got
usable images for the school paper and he won AP awards. TMZ pushed to 6,400
is excellent and even allows you to consider depth of field with bazooka-like
lenses, but it kind of falls apart if you try for 16x20s. Sure is easy to
focus on the grain, though.
