While I don't have an SB-24, I have noticed that the illuminator is
virtually useless with my (recently sold) 8008s, whereas my N90s locks on
almost as quickly as in bright daylight. I would imagine that it has been
optimized for the newer cameras, and is therefore less intrusive.

On a side note, how do you like your F4? I'm trying to decide between one
and another N90s (yes I know the F100 is coming out).
