I just looked at a set of test slides that I shot with my recently
     acquired
     TC-16A .........
My question is, do the newer AF bodies, like the F5 and F100 support
     the
TC-16A? Also, why did Nikon discontinue this thing anyway? The
     optics are
     great..........

I have a TC-16A and an F5. In fact, I used the two along with an
80-200 f/2.8D yesterday at an autocross, as well as many other
occasions in the last six or nine months that I've had the TC-16A. I
find the combination to work quite well, with some limitations; for
one, the focusing range of the combination becomes restricted on any
camera. But the small mass of the optical elements of the TC-16A and
the F5's autofocus speed makes for a pretty good combination. The
TC-16A also limits some of the F5's modes: No matrix meter, only
Aperture-priority and manual exposure mode, probably a couple other
things I can't remeber. Let's put it this way: I'm not getting rid
     of mine any time soon.
