Subject: Linear polarisers in AF cameras?

Kris Asks:

I would greatly appreciate other photographer's experiences with the use
of linear PL's on AF camera's, both good and bad ones. If some camera's
work equally good with both (like my F-801), why would one buy the
expensive linear ones? I, for one, am not sure whether my next camera
would be an F-801S (great camera) or another one (F90X?) if I had to
upgrade my PL's. The F90X might turn out VERY expensive that way.
If I get adequate responses, I will post a summary to the list.

I've used a linear PL with a sigma 24-70mm AF (trying to get rid of it) on
my old 801 [8008] for some eight months with Fuji 200ASA Sensia11 slide
film, and have not had any problems. From what others had told me I expected
some problems, but just stuck with my linear PL as I don't trust salesmen.
As I've just 'upgraded' to a 801s [8008s], and am thinking of replacing the
sigma lens with the new [in the UK] Nikkor 28-105 f/3.5-5.6D [any
comments?], I'm also interested to hear if anyone has experienced problems
when using linear PLs with AF lenses.

Thanks,

Robert
