1) DO NOT CHECK YOUR FILM IN LUGGAGE! The new scanning x-ray machines being used to X-Ray checked luggage will not fog your checked film, however, where the beam intersects your film there will be a distinct high density line through all the frames in the canister. If you have to make a choice where hand checking the film is not an option, carry on the film and let it go through the carry-on Ray... An increased base fog is certainly preferable to dense lines... 2) You can get plastic film canisters. They are reloadable and you will need to load the film into the canister yourself.. You could conceivably then carry-on the film in pockets... 3) The best option, given available time and cost, is to ship the film through an international shipper (DHL - FedEx) labeling it with a NO X-Ray label. If necessary use a biological sample label... BTW: I always have some high speed 3200 color, TMax 3200, or High Speed Infrared in my bag. Makes it easier to justify a hand-check request... I can tell some great stories of problems regarding the unwillingness of airports (in the US even) to consider hand-checking at all. It has gotten me some nice upgrades and vouchers since such a refusal violates FAA rules.. but it is still a huge pain.
