I notice a lot of talk on the list about Cokin filters. I also use them, but
usually only for soft focus effects or a blue grad to deepen skies, and
occasioanlly a champagne warmup.
But a lot of you guys also make really heavy technical talk on lens quality
too, sometimes splitting hairs to the nth degree: That's fine of course, but
surely those extra few hundred dollars spent on a top quality lens is gonna
be almost completely wasted once you slap a $5 bit of tinted plexiglass in
front of it?
So on what occasions would you 'lensophiles' consider it 'safe' to use a
Cokin filter without negating the advantage of using a top quality lens?
Sure I understand that an expensive lens with a filter over it will be
likely to give a better result than a cheap lens with a filter over it, but
assuming you were someone who uses a colour temperature correction filter
pretty regularly, what kind of advantage are we really talking about?
