I read the posting about Paris.
It's very hit a miss at all airports. I had no problem getting
the security at Charles de Gaulle to hand check my film.
Across the US you will find some who are willing and some
who are not. The key element to getting your film hand checked
is your attitude. If you're a jerk, you're not going to get your
film hand checked. If you're polite and respectful of the job
they are trying to perform, you have a much better chance.
Remember, they are there to make sure some lunatic doesn't
get a weapon or bomb on the same plane you will be on. I
for one, hope they scrutinize everyone.
