There can be a tension between performance and readability, yes, and in fact Nim has an underused feature called "TR macros" to compensate for that.
However, there is nothing "obvious" about "I demand that the compiler (which I didn't pay any money for btw...) optimizes the big O behavior of my code, no matter how poorly written".
