Police are waiting for a badly injured Anita Danve (above, inset)
to regain full consciousness before recording her statement
Twenty-two-year-old Anita Danve lies in Borivli’s Bhagwati hospital
with multiple fractures to her right leg, a badly damaged spine and
deep injuries to her head. Even though she has opened her eyes, the
deeply traumatised girl has been unable to speak. The person allegedly
responsible for her state is her 50-year-old employer Indira Turakia in
whose house she has been working as a domestic help for five years.
Danve’s
aunt, Sangeeta, 35, says the girl had been pushed out of the second
floor flat in Lokhandwala Complex, Kandivli, after a heated argument
with Turakia on Sunday. However, Turakia, in her statement to the
police, has emphatically denied pushing Danve. “It was I who took her
to hospital. I was informed about Anita falling down only by the
security guards”, her statement says.

Nevertheless, the police are investigating the case and are waiting for
Danve to recover enough to be able to talk to them. Ramdas Gaikwad, ACP
of Samta Nagar Division, said, “We are waiting until the victim becomes
fully conscious. Although she can open her eyes, she is unable to
speak. At this stage we cannot deny the involvement of her employer,
but the picture will be clearer only after we record the victim’s
statement.”
Meanwhile,
the police have also recorded statements of two security guards of the
building who were present when the incident happened. As per the
statement, Daddan Yadav, one of the security guards of Prism Enclave,
said that he heard Turakia screaming loudly and a few minutes later he
heard a big noise as if a large object had hit the ground. When he saw
Danve lying on the ground, bleeding profusely, he immediately informed
Turakia who rushed her to hospital.
Ambadas Ausarmal, 35,
Danve’s uncle who arrived from Beed after being informed about the
incident said that his niece had first been taken to Sai Nursing Home
in Kandivli by Turakia herself, but since it was an accident case she
was referred to Bhagwati Hospital, Borivli, where she was admitted to
the ICU in an unconscious state.
Danve’s aunt Sangeeta, who
works as a domestic help at Turakia’s son’s residence at Bandra said
that during the brief period that her niece regained consciousness, she
had muttered something about being pushed off the balcony. Since she
was unable to speak clearly, the police could not record her statement.
Several attempts to contact Turakia were unsuccessful.
